Christmas 2014

Feliz Navidad...
from Our Home to Yours!

Harrel Family 2014

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas...we sure did. We spent Christmas with my mom and sister in Silver City, NM. We had a blast! But it was sure cold in the mountains.

 Tamales 101

For Christmas my family makes tamales and this year the boys were old enough to participate.

You start with husks that have been soaked in water and dried.

Then you spread the masa very thin onto the husk.
Masa is Spanish for dough. It is often short for masa de maĆz, a maize dough made from freshly prepared hominy. It is used for making corn tortillas, tamales and many other Latin American dishes.

Next you add your meat mixture. We use pork...your tamales come out very moist and of course...YUMMY!!!

It's ready to be wrapped!

Here are my mom and Hunter working on their tamales. They are busy little bees!

Finally, we have our first batch ready to be steamed! They weren't the prettiest tamales but they sure were delicious!

Hope you enjoy...thanks for stopping by!
